Memory Unit

11The function of memory in any computer is to store data, whether it is stored temporarily or permanently. Within a microcontroller, there may be readable memory – called ROM – and memory that can be written to and erased on-the-fly, called RAM.

Memory on a microcontroller is provided with a complex addressing scheme that ensures that the right content is accessed when needed and that is retrieved from memory in a reliable way.
